what is meditation
Meditation means to concentrate, focus, awareness, observe, and analyses on any of your crazy minds and all kind of phenomena.
The Buddha teaches many different types of meditation techniques according to the sentient being's mental level.
In generally Buddhism meditation has two types:
1. Calm abiding meditations (concentrative meditation)
2. Insight meditation (analysis meditation).
(a) calm abiding(Concentrative meditation):
usually starts with learning to focus on any object we like,
E.g we often start with our breathing.
Before focusing the mind our body needs to put on the seven meditation posture which has seven features:
1. The legs are crossed in the vajra position.
2. The hands are in a meditative position - about four fingers below one’s navel.
3. Keep your spine straight.
4. The shoulders are stretched like the wings of a vulture.
5. The neck is slightly bent.
6. The tongue, in its natural position, lightly touches the palate.
7. The eyes are half-open and focus upon a point in front of you and about four fingers above the tip of your nose.
Once we are seated comfortably, generate bodhicitta meditation thinking.
I am going to meditate on my breathing in order to reach enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings.
Then bring your attention to your breath focusing your mind on the entrance of your nostrils, where you can feel the air entering and exiting your body.
Breathe normally, keep your mind on your breath but don’t think, I’m breathing or something like that. Just let go and let be.

(b) Analytical meditation.
Once you are seated comfortably, generate bodhicitta meditation by thinking,
I am going to meditate on the nature of my mind in order to reach enlightenment for
the sake of all sentient beings.
Then bring your attention to the nature of your mind. Use your powers of logical reasoning to examine the punctuation of the mind.
The object is to observe our thoughts. Just watch how your thoughts arise,
and how they come onto the internal stage of your mind - how they connect to each other,

and where they lead you to.
Are there any certain places they lead you to, are they inside or outside the body?
Are there any certain places to come, go, and stay? Have they any color or shapes?
Which one is me? A part of my body or mind? Is there any difference between body and mind? This is the way of analytical meditation.
We can practice this way on any of the objects we like.
That is the good of meditation, which removes all bad emotions, and suffering leads to nirvana and enlightenment.
